Volatility Shares Trust Files for Leveraged Bitcoin Futures ETF
Volatility Shares Trust has filed Form 8-A with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for listing shares of a leveraged Bitcoin futures ETF. The registration statement listed the Volatility Shares “2x Bitcoin Strategy ETF” under the ticker symbol BITX, which would offer leveraged exposure to Bitcoin (BTC) corresponding to two times the daily performance of the S&P CME Bitcoin Futures Daily Roll Index.
SEC Has Not Approved Yet
At the time of publication, the SEC had not explicitly denied this application for cryptocurrency investment vehicle — a leveraged BTC futures ETF would be first of its kind in The United States. A separate SEC Form N-1A filing for listing shares of the leveraged Bitcoin futures ETF on CBOE BZX Exchange stated that neither SEC nor U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission had “approved or disapproved these securities or passed upon accuracy or adequacy of this prospectus”.
Plans To Start Trading On June 27
Volatility Shares Trust’s website stated it planned to start trading on June 27 but added that registration statement “has not yet become effective”. This could potentially suggest that if everything goes according to plan then it could be likely that U.S regulator may approve this application and make it available for investors from all over world.
What Is A Leveraged Investment?
A leveraged investment is when an investor borrows money in order to increase their potential returns from an asset class like stocks, bonds etc., typically by using derivatives like options contracts or margin loans from brokers and banks respectively. Leveraging can help you magnify gains and losses as well depending upon how market behaves at given time so investors must keep caution while investing in such products as they come along with increased risk too as compared to other traditional investments like stocks and bonds etc..
